The Tradewind 35 is one of John Rock's superb designs that was approved for the 2018 Golden Globe Race. They are highly regarded as a safe and comfortable offshore cruiser with a superb turn of speed. Mahala is beautifully maintained and in excellent condition. She has a wonderful teak interior with teak and holly strip floor. The hull was moulded in 1997 and first launched in 2004 after a full professional fitout by Priors Boatyard. Must be viewed to be appreciated.

Accommodations

Offering four berths in a traditional layout. Up forward there is a double berth, good storage in fitted wardrobe and cupboards and a deck opening hatch. Moving aft there is the heads compartment to port with Jabsco manual marine toilet, basin & mirror. Holding tank located under forward berth. Teak grate forming shower with shower tray. Hot and cold pressurised water supply. Opposite to starboard are two hanging lockers.

In the saloon there is a single settee berth to starboard that converts into a double and single settee berth to port. Both berths have lee cloths and are on either side of a double drop leaf table. The table has the ability to be fixed in two different positions depending on preference. Vast amount of storage and cupboards. Taylors paraffin heater warming stove. Pipe cots can be fixed above each saloon berth and these are stowed with the lee cloths.

The L-shaped galley is to port with a stainless steel Nelson stove, with two burners, oven & grill. Twin stainless steel sinks with pressurised hot and cold water supply. Whale gusher foot pump, supplying fresh water. Saltwater hand pump. Drinking water hand pump. Formica galley top surface. 12v refrigerator.

Forward facing chart table to starboard with instruments and control panel. Draining wet locker aft of chart seat. Superb teak joinery throughout with holly stripped sole-boards. 

Mechanical Systems

Located under the companionway steps is a Yanmar 3GM30F, three cylinder, 27hp marine diesel engine, fitted new in 2004. Fresh water cooled via a heat exchanger. Shaft drive to a fixed three bladed propeller. Rope cutter to shaft. Single lever controls. 182-litre stainless steel fuel tank. Engine serviced September 2022.

Construction

Tradewind 35 built by Blondecell (UK) to a John Rock design. Hull moulded in 1997. Fitout done by Priors Boatyard and launched in 2004. Solid laminate off-white GRP hull with a brown cavita line. Hand laid-up GRP deck and superstructure with a Treadmaster non-slip finish. Long encapsulated keel with a lead ballast. Wheel steering to a keel hung rudder. Teak cockpit seating and sole. Self-draining cockpit. Teak capped bulwarks and exterior trim.
